For parents, it's a potential nightmare to have your children come and show off a very sore throat. A raspy voice, fever and coughing are all warning signs of this ailment; however nothing is more symptomatic than when having the child open their mouth and say "ah." Tonsillitis is when the tonsils — fleshy lymphatic pads on each side of the back of the throat — become infected with a virus or bacteria. A common childhood ailment, tonsillitis causes the tonsils to become swollen and painful.
